“This series of works shows me the incredible complexity, perfection and beauty of nature. ”

Anatomia Blue Heritage “With the Anatomia Blue Heritage series Samuel Dejong transforms the conditioned, human aversion to insects into a fascination. In this series he made sculptures of beetles in the most characteristic design from his own soil: Delft Blue. The artist applied original 17th-century Delft Blue patterns designed by Daniël Marot to various insects. The patterns are first enlarged and painted by hand, after which they are digitally reduced so that they fit perfectly on the bodies of the mini sculptures.

These three-dimensional sculptures are subsequently photographed in great detail part by part, after which high-resolution prints can also be made on aluminum. The final result makes the smallest details of the original sculpture visible.

Samuel Dejong

With his sculptures, Samuel Dejong (1971) – our resident artist – stretches the limits of technical as well as aesthetic potential. For only with an open mind, free of preconceptions, can one accomplish what initially seemed impossible, and thereby elevate something relatively inconspicuous – or disconcerting even – to the level of art.
